My Nature Photography

I received my first camera when I was five or six and since then I've been hooked. My first photos were all in black and white since my Dad had a darkroom where he developed and printed all our films - no digital cameras back then!

One of my favourite subjects to photograph is nature - scenery and wildlife. Whenever we go for a walk in the bush (that's Aussie for forest or country), I'm usually at the rear of the party photographing a fungus, flower or insect.

Come with me on a stroll through our Australian bush and parks and share in some of the delights I have found.

I am blessed to live within walking distance of a small lake which many water birds have claimed as their home. Spring is a great time to see the cygnets and ducklings. Last Spring we also had a pair of willie wagtails make their nest just outside our back door. We would get dive bombed by a very protective mama and papa bird every time we went to the vegetable garden, but we also got to witness the chicks growing up.

I love the 12x optical zoom on this camera allowing me to get close up shots of timid animals such as birds. The macro on this camera is also superb.

I love flowers – the different colours, shapes and textures. I find that I often use macro (close up) shots with flowers so that I can get in really close to get all the details. Some of these are photos of our native Australian plants and others are of spectacular flowers from other parts of the world.

Maybe I'm a bit strange, but I am fascinated by fungi. Here are some of the treasures I have found along my travels.
