Fujifilm FinePix XP60 Digital Camera

Updated on August 18, 2014

FujiFilm XP60 - A Fun Digital Camera For Active and Sporty People

The Fujifilm XP60 digital camera is a neat little point and shoot digital camera with some great advantages over your usual digital cameras. My favorite feature of this camera is that it is waterproof – and not just able to withstand a bit of rain, but you can take it to the beach, lake, river, or pool and take it swimming or snorkelling down to a depth of 20 feet (just over 6 meters). This tough little camera is also sand and dust proof and shock-proof to 5 feet. And as a bonus, this camera is available in black, blue, green, red, or yellow.

I bought this camera when I was going to go on a working holiday and didn't want to lug my big (expensive) digital SLR camera around with me. But I didn't just want to buy a smaller camera. I wanted it to do something my big camera could not. So I'm very excited about the fact that this camera is waterproof and plan to take it snorkelling soon to try out how it works underwater.

In addition to macro ability and the usual different flash configurations, the camera has quite a few different shooting modes. There is a special underwater mode and also an underwater macro mode. Another mode which may be handy when snorkelling is the no flash / flash mode where the camera takes two photos in a row – the first without flash and the second with flash. The deeper you go underwater, the more colors get lost, so a flash will bring back those colors. I also took some sunset shots in sunset mode and the colors turned out vivid and bright. I experimented with some of the filters available on the camera for those who want to see some special effects, such as toy camera (which creates shaded borders around the picture), miniature (which blurs the top and bottom of the picture for a miniature effect), cross screen (which adds sparkles to the picture) and more. See the photo carousel below the videos to see some of the photos I have taken with the camera.

The camera did not come with a flash card, so I bought a 32 Gb card, which was plenty of room for my photos.

If you are travelling, I think extra batteries and a charger are essential. You can take approximately 200 shots on one charge. I bought two extra batteries and a charger. At the end of the day, I would recharge any spent batteries. I never ran out of power :-)

Here are two videos showing some photos and videos taken by fujifilm finepix xp60 digital camera. The second one doesn't seem to be there until you click on it.

This underwater video has been shot using two different cameras. The turtle, clown fish, sea snakes and more were shot using the XP60. Make sure you look in the top left corner to see the footage shot with the XP60. You may need to move your mouse off the video so that this is visible. Near the end of the video, there are also some still shots.

Beautiful scenery. The film has been sped up, but shows what you can achieve with this tough, little camera.

FujiFilm Camera Review Summary

I love this great little camera. The photos are not as good as the ones my Canon SLR takes, but then it was nowhere near the price either! It is a perfect camera to throw into a bag or backpack, because it is so small and robust. And it has those fabulous features of being waterproof, shockproof and freeze-proof. So it is perfect for taking swimming, boating, kayaking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and more.
